The Left Side Navigation Bar
I blogged earlier this morning about
WSJ.com abandoning the left-side navigation bar, and opined that online publications will make that a Web standard. It's better for readers online.
I just stumbled upon
CNET's new look, and what do you know? No left-side navigation.
Why is this significant? CNET is often "credited" with setting the "inverted L" standard for Web design.
CNET explains its design rationale, but I couldn't find anything on the removal of the left-side navigation. CNET still uses the bar on some idex pages, but it appears to be an exception rather than a design rule.
